Summary: | In November 1995, at least 17 Leach's Storm Petrels were found on Dyer Island off the south coast of South Africa and breeding was suspected. In November 1996, breeding was confirmed when one of at least 19 birds present was found to be incubating an egg and, subsequently, in February 1997, at least three nests with one chick in each were located. This represents the first confirmed breeding of this species in the Southern Hemisphere. |
