Description
Summary:Due to its grid-bound character, the integration of the European electricity market still faces a lot of challenges when it comes to cross-zonal energy trading. Currently, different concepts for an efficient facilitation of the market and utilization of the transmission grid are implemented in the regional markets created by the Electricity Regional Initiative. One example is the implementation of the flow-based Capacity Allocation in Central Western Europe for the cross-zonal day-ahead electricity market. This will be a major step towards a reliable physical reflection and an efficient usage of the grid. This is one of the intermediate steps to cope with the future challenges. Transmission System Operators will face an increased volatility and intermittent generation, increased liquidity and new methodologies in the intraday markets which call for sophisticated procedures. This paper introduces a concept which focusses on a market based intraday allocation for cross-zonal trading of electricity.
