Summary: | For the rare isotope production the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB) will use the thin target that comprises a rotating carbon disk with multiple slices and heat dissipation via radiative cooling. A prototype of such a target was designed, built and successfully tested with an intense electron beam simulating the thermal and mechanical conditions for target operation at FRIB. The experimental data and the results of extensive numeric simulations validate the thermal and mechanical aspects of the multi-slice target design and confirm the chosen concept. |
