Summary: | Effective communication is an essential aspect of the emergency department (ED) (Bagnasco et al., 2013; Grant and Jenkins, 2014). Poor communication negatively influences patient safety outcomes (Bagnasco et al., 2013; Grant and Jenkins, 2014; Reader et al., 2014). Inadequate communication results in admission delays, delayed treatments, inadequate pain control and medication errors (Bigham et al., 2012; Lau and Wang, 2013; Callinan and Brandt, 2015). These issues are particularly problematic within the context of the ED (Bagnasco et al., 2013). 27 references |
