Summary:The author misses Daniel "Dan" J. Meltzer terribly, and he thinks about him often. He cannot help, in doing so, but think about his love and admiration for his family. But he also remembers him as a colleague. Meltzer was a soft-spoken person, and he never tried to dominate a room. But he was a large presence for those who worked with him. He wasn't the first to speak. Nor was he strategically waiting to be the last. What he said, though, always commanded attention. And it stayed with you long after he said it. When he thinks about working with Meltzer, he mostly has a picture of him listening. Taking in what was being said. Weighing it carefully -- and only then asking a few crucial questions. Advising. He was gifted at it. As gifted at it as anybody he has ever come across. He is hardly alone in thinking that.
