Nutritional and short term toxicological evaluation of Perilla seed oil

Weanling NIN wistar rats appeared to suffer no toxicological effects when consuming 10% Perilla seed oil in their diet for 18 weeks. Serum cholesterol and triglyceride levels were significantly reduced after 18 weeks and this effect is attributed to the high α-linolenic acid level of the oil (57%)
