Description
Summary:Experiments have been carried out to develop multifunctional composites with improved properties and structure for using in air turbines, ballistic armor, cutting tools and atomic reactors. For optimization of sintering process, microstructure improvement and viscosity increase we used MgO,Y sub(2)O sub(3) additives. Carbon fiber (S-242 L sub(av)=370[mu]m, d=13[mu]m) stipulated, also, the maintenance of carbide stoichiometric composition. Sintering was done in vacuum with hot pressure (25 MPa) in the interval of 1800-1900[degrees]C with dwell time 5-7 minutes. Structural analysis proved the homogeneous structure of the composite. The properties satisfy ISO standards. HV=24 GPa, compressive strength 2300 MPa, HRA=94, bending strength - 500-600 MPa.
