Description
Summary:The floodplain is an ecological system consisting of several floodplain ecological subsystems (FES) distinguished by a complex of natural conditions, such as location in the river valley, lithology, relief, hydrology, soil, type of herbaceous vegetation, etc. Under field conditions, a convenient integral diagnostic parameter for specification of FES is the type of herbaceous vegetation. The study was performed at the Ecosystem Landscape Station in floodplains of the Iput', Unecha, and Besed' rivers (Bryansk oblast). The station includes five key ecosystem sites (EKS) located in different zones of radioactive contamination, which correspond in their natural and anthropogenic conditions to the southwestern region of Russia.
