description Eight exterior air-barrier tapes were tested for performance in sealing joints between plywood panels in temporary wood-framed structures used by the U.S. Army. Outdoor exposure testing over eight months was performed in conjunction with accelerated aging for four weeks using a QUV accelerated weathering tester. Of the eight test samples, three acrylic-based adhesive tapes showed the least degradation and asphalt-based adhesive tapes showed the greatest amount of degradation. Based on the initial results, two acrylic-based adhesive tapes were selected for accelerated aging and testing of up to 12 weeks. Results from this second set of tests indicate that these two tapes would be suitable for sealing plywood joints on the structures.
