Summary: | Many elementary teachers have been damaged by their experiences in mathematics--just as I was deprived in physical education. Without a different vision of what mathematics should be, new teachers will probably inflict their own negative experiences on students. Neither mathematics nor physical education can be about winning and losing. Physical educators with a clear understanding of what physical education should be avoid activities that create winners and losers. Instead, all students from kindergarten through college are prepared for a healthy and productive life of physical activity. Survival of the fittest is not the goal; every body must win. |
