Summary: | An experimental study was undertaken on the preparation, by High Energy Reactive Ball Milling in Hydrogen (HRBM), of hydrogen storage materials on the basis of Mg mixed with FeTiO sub(3), and their further characterisation (SEM, TEM, XRD, volumetric H sub(2) absorption studies, TDS). It was shown that the addition of [> or =, slanted]5 wt.% of FeTiO sub(3) dramatically improves H absorption in Mg and reduces the temperature of further H desorption. Subsequent addition of carbon, including Graphite (G), Activated Carbon (AC) and Multi-Wall Carbon Nanotubes (MWCNT) results in some slowing of the H absorption down but significantly improves re-hydrogenation performances of the material, which in time is able to re-absorb about 5 wt.% H in less than 5-7 min (15 bar H sub(2)/250 [degrees]C). These improvements were associated with the reduction of FeTiO sub(3) to yield nanopartides of Fe and TiFe(Hx). |
