Summary:The Mai Po and Inner Deep Bay wetland, the largest remaining system of its type in Hong Kong, was listed as a Wetland of International Importance under the Ramsar Convention in September 1995. The Mai Po marshes, occupying an important area for biodiversity conservation within the Ramsar site, were originally designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest in 1976, and have been managed as a nature reserve by the World Wide Fund for Nature Hong Kong since 1984.
