Summary:[Display omitted] •A facile synthesis of novel steroidal spiro-pyrrolidine heterocycles is described.•This is the first four component sequential synthesis of steroidal pyrrolidines.•The product was formed in one-pot via a sequential [3+2]-cycloaddition reaction.•The reaction in ionic liquid was better than the conventional method.•The steroidal spiro-pyrrolidine heterocycles were obtained in good yields. A facile one-pot synthesis of novel steroidal dispiro-indenoquinoxaline pyrrolidines via multicomponent-[3+2]-cycloaddition of azomethine ylides in ionic liquid is described. The structure of cycloadduct is confirmed by IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, high resolution mass spectroscopy and elemental analysis.
