Description
Summary:Analytically pure selenonyl bis(acetate) SeO sub(2)(O sub(2)CCH sub( 3)) sub(2) was prepared by the reaction of SeO sub(3) with a stoichiometric amount of acetic anhydride in nitromethane; it crystallizes in the monoclinic P2 sub(1)/n space group with one molecule in the asymmetric unit and a = 5.2044(1) Aa, b = 21.6580(5) Aa, c = 6.7074(2) Aa, and beta = 93.628(2) degree . The selenium atom binds to two oxo groups and two acetate anions in a distorted tetrahedral geometry. Analysis of the Hirschfeld surface indicated the presence of numerous C-H...O interactions. The selenonyl bis(acetate) SeO sub(2)(O sub(2)CCH sub( 3)) sub(2) can be prepared from the reaction of SeO sub(3) with acetic anhydride and represents the first case of a selenonyl carboxylate. The compound is characterized by multinuclear NMR and Raman spectroscopy, and its molecular structure is determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction.
