Summary:The high-spin level structure of super(1)86u is re-investigated by means of in-beam gamma -ray spectroscopy via the super(172)Yb( super(19)F, 5n gamma ) super(186)Au reaction. The oblate bands previously reported are revised and extended to higher-spin states. A new I super([pi]) = (20 super(1)) excited state has been identissed and assigned to the [pi]h super(-1) sub(11/2) [x in circle] vi super(2) sub(13/2)h super(-1) sub(9/2) configuration. The total Ronthian surface and cranked shell model calculations suggest that the [pi]h super(-1) sub(11/2) [x in circle] vi super(2) sub(13/2)h super(-1) sub(9/2) band in super(186)Au has a non-axial deformation.
