Summary: | Appropriate placement for students with disabilities in physical education continues to be a major concern. Federal legislation requires consideration of the least restrictive environment (LRE) in determining the most appropriate setting for students with disabilities to learn. It is understood as a continuum of educational placement options that is to be applied across all content areas, including PE. The purpose of this article is twofold: (1) to examine the concept of LRE and the continuum of placement options for students with disabilities in PE in Guam and Hawai'i, and (2) to describe a conceptual model of LRE and continuum of PE placements for public schools currently used in Hawai'i. |
