Summary: | Complications such as retinopathy, peripheral vascular disease, nephropathy, and cerebrovascular disease are not disappearing. Because diabetes is a worldwide problem and has been recognized for millennia, I assume most of our readers are familiar with this dreadful disorder. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there are 29.1 million people with DM in the United States, or 9.3% of the US population.5 Estimates are that about 10% have T1DM and 90% have T2DM. |
