Description
Summary:High performance Bismuth Vanadate (BiVO4) nanopigment was synthesised in patented solution spray reactor using precursor Bi(NO3)3·5H2O and NaVO4 as precipitant in presence of Tween-80 surfactant. The functional group, crystal structure, morphology and size of BiVO4 nanopigment was analysed by FTIR, XRD, FESEM and Particle Size Analyser. Spherical particles of monoclinic BiVO4 nanopigment of average particle size 70–100 nm were obtained. Pigment properties such as oil absorption value, colour strength, opacity of BiVO4 nanopigment were determined. Robust industrial OEM coatings were formulated using BiVO4 nanopigment and acrylic polyol, melamine formaldehyde resin as polymeric binders. Physical, mechanical and chemical resistance properties of coatings were evaluated. •Solution spray synthesis of high performance BiVO4 nanopigment at room temperature.•Ecofriendly replacement for lead based pigment in industrial OEM coatings.•Evaluation of pigment and coating properties of BiVO4 and industrial OEM coatings.
