Frequency of Diabetic Retinopathy and Related Factors in Patients with Diabetes having Coronary Artery Disease

Abstract We investigated 87 patients with diabetic retinopathy (DR) having coronary artery disease (CAD) and evaluated their risk factors using a non-mydriatic fundus camera. All patients had Type 2 diabetes mellitus. Of 35 (40.2%) patients with DR complications, 29 (82.8%) had non-proliferative DR...

Description
Summary:Abstract We investigated 87 patients with diabetic retinopathy (DR) having coronary artery disease (CAD) and evaluated their risk factors using a non-mydriatic fundus camera. All patients had Type 2 diabetes mellitus. Of 35 (40.2%) patients with DR complications, 29 (82.8%) had non-proliferative DR and six (17.1%) had proliferative DR. There were statistically significant differences between patients with and without DR with regard to diabetes duration. Multiple logistic regression analyses demonstrated that male sex and insulin use were statistically significant risk factors for patients with DR having CAD. Approximately 40% patients with diabetes having CAD had accompanying DR, which was confirmed by non-mydriatic fundus images.
