Description
Summary:It has been shown that the helicity of background turbulence plays an important part in the generation of such extreme weather events as tornado, etc. In the present paper we have experimentally studied the behavior of large vortical structures (such as Karman vortices) against the background of turbulence possessing helical properties. We have shown that the development of long-living structures in the wake behind a cylinder in MHD flow is connected with the helicity mechanism. The fact that the mechanism of helicity leads to the generation of turbulence both in the atmosphere and in MHD flows allows us to refer to a common mechanism of long-lived turbulence generation.
