Summary: | State officials worry the $33,000 maximum individual assistance grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency could leave sizable out-of-pocket costs for people whose properties sustained major damage and who lack flood insurance. Mr. Broussard, whose house is in the town of Central, outside Baton Rouge, said that with money tight, he and his wife never saw a need to buy flood insurance: "You think, 'I'll never need that, I've never seen water come up this high.'" Adding to their problems, his in-laws' pool business--where his wife and several other family members work--was destroyed in the flooding. |
