Summary:Throat swab reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction was positive for H1N1 influenza virus; chest radiograph showed no homogenous parenchymal opacities in bilateral mid and lower zones with relative sparing of apices (Fig. 1). In vitro studies in animal models have confirmed that H1N1 viruses can grow and produce cell damage in human pancreatic islets and other pancreatic cell lines, causing AP and diabetes [5].
