Summary: | Abstract This symposium explores five difficult and incompletely solved problems that can occur after hip or knee arthroplasty. The goals are to make surgeons aware of the main current treatment options, contemporary thinking about favored solutions, and technical solutions that may improve the likelihood of success when managing these challenging complications. The four chosen problems include two soft tissue problems (chronic extensor mechanism deficiency after TKA and abductor deficiency after THA), recurrent infection after a two-stage procedure for infected THA or TKAs, and pelvic discontinuity after THA. For surgeons and others in the orthopedic community interested in innovation, these challenges also present ripe opportunities to improve the care of patients with unmet needs. |
