Description
Summary:This special issue focuses on an integrated view of inorganic and organic contaminants in the environment, from sources to sinks. The volume contains 12 of the 31 contributions, oral or poster, presented at the 1992 Spring Meeting of the American Geophysical Union (AGU)-Canadian Geophysical Union (CGU)-Mineralogical Society of America (MSA) held in Montreal, Canada on May 12-16, 1992. This collection of papers includes efforts to model the transport of contaminants and their impact on water quality and biological resources. Table of contents include: Tracing sewage-contaminated sediments in Hamilton Harbour using selected geochemical indicators, T. Bachtiar, J. P. Coakley, M. J. Risk; Seasonal variation of DDT and its metabolites in the St. Lawrence River (Canada) and four of its tributaries, T. Pham, K. Lum, C. Lemieux; Retention of sediment and metals by Narragansett Bay subtidal and marsh environments: an update, S. B. Bricker; Fluxes and budgets of anthropogenic metals in the Santa Monica and San Pedro Basins off Los Angeles: review and reassessment, C. A. Huh; DDTs and dumpsite in the Santa Monica Basin, California, M. I. Venkatesan, G. E. Green, E. Ruth, A. B. Chartrand; Contaminant dispersal on the Palos Verdes continental margin: I. Sediments and biota near a major California wastewater discharge, J. K. Stull, D. J. P. Swift, A. W. Niedoroda; Contaminant dispersal on the Palos Verdes continental margin II. Estimates of the biodiffusion coefficient, D sub(B) , from composition of the benthic infaunal community, D. J. P. Swift, J. K. Stull, A. W. Niedoroda, C. W. Reed, G. T. F. Wong; Contaminant dispersal on the Palos Verdes continental margin: III. Processes controlling transport, accumulation and re-emergence of DDT-contaminated sediment particles, A. W. Niedoroda, D. J. P. Swift, C. W. Reed, J. K. Stull; Concentrations of organic contaminants in Mytilus edulis from the Hudson-Raritan Estuary and Long Island South, C. S. Peven, A. D. Uhler, R. E. Hillman, W. G. Steinhauer; Accumulation and depuration of organic contaminants by the American oyster (Crassostrea virginica), J. L. Sericano, T. L. Wade, J. M. Brooks; A model for contaminant transport in Lunenburg Bay, Nova Scotia, D. R. M. Sturley, A. J. Bowen.
