Description
Summary:Highlights • Kindling resistance was overcome by the administration of supra-threshold stimuli, however reaching stage 5 was still delayed in GAERS compared to Wistar rats. • GAERS displayed a significant increase in hippocampal excitability at stage 2 which is the critical stage for the development of convulsive stages. • The paired-pulse despression (PPD) was more pronounced on Schaffer collaterals-CA1 synapses of control GAERS than that observed in the control Wistar rats, whereas their excitability were similar. • Following kindling, there was a decrease in PPD in the Wistar rats as the kindling progress has advanced, and reached at its highest grade upon achievement of stage 5.
