Description
Summary:Samples of the shrimp Penaeus semiculatus and Metapenaeus monocerus were collected from the Iskenderun Gulf, Turkey, in January, April, July, and October 1999, and concentrations of cadmium, zinc, iron, lead, and copper were determined in muscle, gill, and hepatopancreas tissues. For both species, lowest levels of all metals were found in muscle, while hepatopancreas contained the highest levels of Zn, Cu, Fe, and Cd in every season. Lead concentrations were highest in gills of both species. Zinc, Fe, and Cu were the most abundant metals in the different tissues analyzed throughout the year. In both species, metal levels were significantly higher in summer compared to all other seasons.
