Summary: | "Wesummarize and interpret basic resource information such as forest area, ownership, volume, biomass, and carbon stocks; forest structure and function topics such as biodiversity, forest age, and deadwood; disturbance information such as tree damage, fire, and invasive plants; and tree growth, mortality, and removals for timber products. Research and information Needs Assessment to Support Sustainable Watershed Management in the Thompson-Okanagan Natural Resource Region, British Columbia. "BC Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations (FLNRO) conducted a research and information needs assessment survey to help identify specific knowledge gaps and develop strategic priorities for research to support sustainable water resource management in the Thompson-Okanagan Natural Resource Region of British Columbia. Traditional burning by Native Americans helped to promote these conditions historically; however, in many areas that have become overly dense, thinning, out-of-season burns, or relatively severe fires may be needed to reopen the forest and reduce fuel levels before a more customary use offire can maintain desired outcomes. |
