Description
Summary:Scientists now expect that, over the next several decades, the atmospheric buildup of CO sub(2) and other greenhouse gases will raise the Earth's temperature to levels unprecedented in human history. The costs of adapting to higher temperatures, shifts in rainfall patterns, and a rise in ocean levels will severely strain the economies of industrial and developing countries alike. Holding the growth to just 1% annually would delay a CO sub(2) doubling for more than a century. No nation acting alone can avert the costly consequences of altering the Earth's climate. CO sub(2) emissions anywhere contribute to climate change everywhere.
