Summary: | China-based New Oriental Energy & Chemical announced on February 16 it will delay opening of a new plant that would produce methanol and dimethyl ether (DME) because of weak prices in the markets. DME has been proposed as a "clean" diesel fuel substitute in specially-equipped diesel engines. DME fuel distribution would require installation of dedicated terminals, delivery trucks and retail dispensing equipment similar to that used for LP-Gas, since DME can't practically be blended with ordinary diesel fuel. The coal-to-liquids specialist company also reported a net loss of US$1.6 million for its fiscal 2010 third quarter, an improvement over a $2.1 million loss in fiscal third-quarter 2009. |
