Description
Summary:The methodological rigour of this study was further strengthened by the authors' analysis of reproducibility by repeat culturing and sequencing of 115 isolates, their sequencing of 15 sample pairs, and, crucial to interpretation of genomic epidemiological analyses, their examination of the potential for multiple clones to infect the same patient, by sequencing up to 14 bacterial colonies from six randomly selected samples. On the basis of their detailed analysis, the authors developed a novel tool, a transmission nomogram, in which the number of different single nucleotide polymorphisms between isolates is the basis for contact tracing and could be used to develop a public health response.
