This study was conducted to determine the impact of the four-year higher nursing school educational program on students' self-esteem and assertiveness.
Descriptive longitudinal design.
The study took place at a Foundation University in Istanbul, Turkey over the period 2006–2010. The students' levels of self-esteem and assertiveness were assessed at the beginning and end of the first, second, third and fourth years of the program.
•Nursing student's self-esteem levels rose at the end of the 4-year nursing program.•Student's assertiveness levels diminished at the end of the first and fourth years.•Student's assertiveness levels rose at the end of the second and third years. |
