Summary: | The results of vertical banded gastroplasty were studied in 40 morbidly obese patients from 1 to 6 years after operation. The mean weight loss in this period varied from 37 to 45 kg and the Quetelet index from 28 to 32 kg/(2). In 30% of the patients the individual weight loss is less than 25%. However, about 90% of the patients expressed satisfaction with the operation result. The early and late mortality was zero. The most common complications were wound infections and incisions[ hernias. Vertical banded gastroplasty is a safe operation, which gave a good or satisfactory result in 70% of the patients. |
