Summary:Highlights • The in vitro anticoagulant potency of commonly used anticoagulants is substantially different in plasma from patients with cirrhosis compared to healthy individuals • The hemostatic changes in patients with cirrhosis of different etiologies are similar but not identical • In comparing the anticoagulant potency of LMWH, apixaban, and dabigatran between patients with cirrhosis due to fatty liver disease or alcohol we found no differences between these distinct etiologies.
