Summary: | NEH can be triggered by infections and can cause erythematous papules, nodules, plaques, pustules, purpura and urticaria. 2 NEH can also be seen in some patients who underwent chemotherapy for malignancies. 2 Differentials also include Kawasaki disease (KD) and contact dermatitis, which has an eczematous 3 appearance. In hot hand-foot syndrome, patients develop tender palmoplantar nodules after exposure to Pseudomonas aeruginosa in underchlorinated warm pools. 4 Patients with papular-purpuric gloves and socks syndrome, usually seen in parvovirus B19 infection, have erythematous and purpuric papules on both surfaces of distal extremities. 5 Palmoplantar erythema, not nodules, is seen in febrile infants with parechovirus type 3.
