Description
Summary:AbstractASCE 41 requires that the thrust force effectuated by out-of-plane arching action of masonry infill panels against the bounding frame be considered in the assessment of masonry infill walls for which arching action is relied upon. Hence, a pre-existing but incomplete model for predicting the thrust force was amended with an empirical equation used to estimate the crushing strain of clay brick masonry based on experimental testing of masonry prisms and mortar cubes. The proposed empirical equation was used to estimate the out-of-plane wall rotation of masonry infill specimen panels, and the predicted values were compared with the experimental results from out-of-plane infill wall tests.
