Summary: | Adenovirus is a rare cause of severe respiratory disease in immunocompetent adults. Despite cardiopulmonary support with invasive mechanical ventilation and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), the patient did not survive. There are few reports of adenovirus causing severe disease or fatal acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) in immunocompetent adults.
