Summary: | A 43-year-old Chinese man presented in February 2000 with a 1-week history of headache, vomiting, and altered consciousness. The CT scan of his brain detected a solitary enhanced ring lesion in the right frontal area with surrounding edema. Anti-HIV-1 and -2 antibodies were positive by both EIA and the particle agglutination assay. He was treated with oral sulfadiazine 1 g q.i.d. plus Fansidar (2 tablets daily). He responded well to treatment, although his initial toxoplasma IgG and IgM titers were negative. The baseline CD4+ lymphocyte count was 31 cells/ mu l. He refused subsequent follow-up after discharge from the hospital. |
