After plans to merge their two nations collapsed back in 1973, Sadat took to denouncing Kaddafi as a "madman" and a "lunatic." Kaddafi, a Muslim zealot who regards the pragmatic Sadat as a traitor to the Arab cause, put out a Mafiastyle contract on the Egyptian President's life.
