Methanol ist ein geeignetes Speichermedium fuer Energie, es kann guenstig gelagert und transportiert werden. Damit ist es ist ein geeigneter Energierohstoff, Treibstoff fuer Benzin- und Dieselmotoren sowie ein Chemierohstoff, der nahtlos Erdgas und Erdol ersetzen kann. Die Nutzung einer Methanol-Technologie konnte fuer Staaten in Suedeuropa und Nordafrika enorme volkswirtschaftliche Bedeutung erlangen.
