Summary:On the basis of the energy approach and the method of equivalent areas, we propose a procedure for the determination of the residual service life of a pipe of steam pipeline weakened by a crack. The accuracy of the method is suitable for engineering calculations. This is confirmed by the results obtained by using the more exact numerical Runge−Kutta method.
