Summary:Four patients, ages 75 to 92 years, with a dementia of the Alzheimer type, presented with accompanying depression and psychosis. In these patients, treatment with a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor resulted in a dramatic clearing of not only the depressive symptoms but the psychosis as well. Treatment was well tolerated in all cases.
