Summary:Microgeographic differentiation in proteins and mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) within a Norwegian colony of thick-billed murres was examined, and mathematical analyses were conducted to elucidate the conditions under which kin groups could evolve in the presence of absence of large-scale structuring. Findings highlight the importance of systematic collection regimes for large-scale surveys.
