Summary: | Five previously unpublished paintings, the "Meeting at the Golden Gate," the "Visitation," the "Presentation of Christ," "Christ among the doctors," and the "Wedding at Cana," have recently been added to a group of four others attributed to the workshop of Jacopo Bellini: a "Marriage of the Virgin" and an "Adoration of the Magi" in the collection of Stanley Moss in New York and a "Birth of the Virgin" and an "Annunciation" in the Galleria Sabauda in Turin. The New York and Turin paintings can be traced to the collection of Natale Schiavoni, who claimed they came from the Scuola Grande di S. Giovanni Evangelista, Venice. The five paintings presented here can be traced to 1882, when they were first recorded in the London home of the Scottish collector William Graham. It is likely that they were also bought from Schiavoni's heirs by Graham in the 1870s. [Publication Abstract] |
