Description
Summary:Issue Title: Theme:Species and Speciation in Ancient Lakes Phenology and evolution of a common endemic caddisfly species Baicalina bellicosa Mart. was studied during 2000-2002. Benthos samples were taken monthly, by diving, from stones at depths of 3-4 m at a station near Berezovy Cape. Simultaneous observations were made on the growth and development of caddisflies kept in refrigerators at temperatures close to Lake Baikal. Dimensions of over 800 larval specimens of B. bellicosa were analyzed during a year, not less than 45 per month. We defined the period of imago flight, egg laying, larval emergence from the egg and its post-embryonal development. Life span is estimated to be not less than 2 years.[PUBLICATION ABSTRACT]
