Summary: | An examination of the wages and salaries of the executives at the companies listed on the Forbes magazine 1994 list of the 200 Best Small Companies in America reveal that Ely Callaway, founder of Callaway Golf, is the highest-paid chief executive. He earned $1 million in 1993 in salary and bonuses and another $2 million in deferred compensation, expenses and company contributions to his 401(K) savings plan. In addition, Callaway added $18 million to his pay by exercising stock options. All told, stock options netted the 200 chief executives of the 1994 Best Small Companies $66 million, compared with the $130 million realized by the executives on the 1993 list. The earnings of numerous executives from the 200 Best Small Companies list are presented. |
