Summary: | Methane, carbon dioxide, and nitrous oxide concentrations in the water column and their exchange at the water/air interface were monitored during the open water period in two freshwater ponds with different catchment properties in the northern boreal zone of Finland. Mean pond CO sub(2) efflux was higher in the peatland vs. the forested catchment whole mean methane emissions were smaller. Nitrous oxide fluxes were generally negligible. Higher CO sub(2) concentrations and efflux on the peatland-dominated catchment were ascribed to greater input of allochthonous C to that pond from its catchment. |
