Description
Summary:The reaction of soil microorganisms to the contamination of soil with PAHs was evaluated in the pot experiments. Six different soils artificially contaminated with a mixture of four PAHs (fluorene + anthracene + pyrene + chrysene) were applied in the studies. PAHs were added to soils at two levels of 10 and 100 mg 4PAH kg m 1 , in the form of CH 2 Cl 2 -solution. Soil microbial properties were evaluated on the basis of four parameters on different functional levels: two on the population level (total bacteria number and intensity of respiration) and two on the activity level (dehydrogenase and acid phosphatase activity). Microbial parameters and PAH content in soil was determined after 0, 15, 30, 60, and 90 days of the study. Relationship between dehydrogenase activity and decreasing PAH content in soil and in soil-water phase was established and ecotoxicological parameters of "recovery effect concentrations"--as affected by soil properties--were evaluated.
