Development of a novel animal/human hybrid model for multiple sclerosis in SCID-mice with functional human lymphoid system: experimental allergic encephalomyelitis induced by envelope protein from human endogenous retrovirus "W"(MSRV-ENV/Syncytin)

Multiple Sclerosis associated RetroVirus element (MSRV), which further unraveled the HERV-W multicopy family, was discovered to encode a powerful imunopathogenic envelope protein (MSRV-ENV or HERV-W Syncytin copy), causing sequential activation of a pro-inflammatory and autoimmune cascade through in...

Description
Summary:Multiple Sclerosis associated RetroVirus element (MSRV), which further unraveled the HERV-W multicopy family, was discovered to encode a powerful imunopathogenic envelope protein (MSRV-ENV or HERV-W Syncytin copy), causing sequential activation of a pro-inflammatory and autoimmune cascade through initial interaction with Toll-Like receptor 4 on antigen-presenting cells (APC), accompanied by gliotoxicity causing blood brain barrier (BBB) breakdown and further triggering superantigen-like dysregulation of T-lymphocytes.
