Summary: | The histologic impact of differentiation in breast cancers of black women was highlighted in the “Predominance of Estrophilin-Negative and Poorly Differentiated Breast Cancer in Black Patients”4 in 1984. [...]later in 1999, he appreciated that changes in cancer care should be applied as a multidisciplinary approach in his work, “Breast Cancer Treatment in Black Women”.6 New approaches included the burgeoning new era of molecular advancements in breast cancer with works such as “Molecular breast cancer subtypes in premenopausal and postmenopausal African-American Women: Age-specific prevalence and survival”7 in 2007 followed by “Basal cell-like (triple-negative) breast cancer, a predictor of distant metastasis in African American Women”8 in 2008. Much of Dr. Leffall's work shaped the discussion, direction and priorities of cancer patient care especially in African-Americans. |
