Description
Summary:Comparative accumulation of super(109)Cd and super(75)Se from water and food by an estuarine fish, Tetractenos glaber, was investigated. All fishes were examined to assess radionuclide biokinetics. Faeces were regularly removed from the test containers to minimize the potential for radionuclide recycling. All fishes were directly calibrated against mixed radionuclide standards. The shape of the uptake curves for whole toadfish indicated that equilibrium concentration or transfer factors could be approximated from the curvilinearity observed description. The uptake rate constants in whole toadfish were also found to be same from water or food. The results also exhibited that the biological half-lives of both radionuclides were similar in each of the two compartments, but varied between compartments.
